1. Methodology - Rational Unified Process
At Axiom, we follows a proven, traceable approach. Our engineers and developers follow the rigor and discipline of a time-tested, proven, and effective software engineering approach, then apply the same principles to Web site development. 2. The Rational Unified ProcessTM& (RUP)
RUP was selected as our procedural standard because it is a time- and performance-tested process utilized by many of today's leading technology companies, major corporations, and government departments to implement their products. By using RUP, Axiom can focus all of its resources on the core business of creating Internet-based solutions for its customers. And, because Rational is constantly refining and upgrading its products as new techniques and concepts are proven in the marketplace, Axiom reaps the benefits of continually being on the cutting edge of this methodology. In addition, we can leverage the worldwide training provided by both Rational and third party suppliers to provide cost-effective training to any employee.
3. How Axiom Utilizes RUP
RUP is an iterative process - a repetitive and thus self-renewing process - that allows for rapid, dynamic change while maintaining solid project control standards. Here are the four phases of RUP, and how Axiom works through each one:
3.1 Inception - We ensure that the Internet solution has a solid foundation in business fundamentals.
3.2 Elaboration - We create a detailed blueprint of functionality, user experience design, and technical architecture.
3.3 Construction - We bring these blueprints to life using an iterative development discipline.
3.4 Transition - We deliver the solution to the client's environment.
Using this iterative methodology, we enable the client to provide constant feedback. Project deliverables can be adjusted to changing market forces. As well, a multi-phased iterative approach allows the early validation of all system components. Using RUP as a basic set of industry "best practices," Axiom starts with a solid foundation in the client's corporate goals - clearly relating the client's Internet objectives to those of its overall business. When a complete solution is developed, it is assessed for cost, benefit, complexity, and risk. This information is then used to develop an iterative project plan.
Each individual piece of functionality is built according to a "use case" - a document that provides specific information such as the goal of the functioning entity and the way in which a site user would interact with it. The use cases developed for the project serve as the foundation for project tasks such as branding, network and security architecture, and technical development.
